The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will hold the Igloo Ice Cream
Easter Term Schools Tournament sponsored by Sterling Products Ltd. at the YMCA Ground, Thomas Lands tomorrow kicking off at 9:00 a.m.
The Tournament will feature Under-14 and16 boys and Open girls’ competition from nine (9) Secondary Schools in Georgetown, West Demerara and East Bank Demerara.
The tournament according to a release will be used to assess the development of the players who have been introduced to the GRFU’s Schools’ Rugby Programme.
The schools scheduled to participate in the tournament are: Covent Garden Secondary, North Georgetown Secondary, Marian Academy, St. John’s College, Tutorial High, Dolphin Secondary, Stewartville Secondary, Uitvlugt Secondary and West Demerara Secondary
Trophies and medals will be presented by a senior representative of Sterling Products Ltd. to the top two schools in each category along with prizes for the Most Valuable Player and the player scoring the most tries in the tournament.
The Tournament is being organised by Tournament Director, Youth Development Officer (YDO), Troy Yhip, and supported by YDOs and senior players of the Union.
Officials from the Guyana Referees’ Society will officiate at the tournament.
The GRFU will hold its next Schools Tournament in May to concur with Guyana’s Independence Anniversary celebrations.
